Metabolism is the rate at which your body performs chemical processes. A faster metabolism means your body burns food and calories faster. People with a fast metabolism are often those who can eat a lot and still stay slim.
Exercise
Maintaining and building muscles takes a lot of energy (calories). The more toned you are, the more calories you will burn while at rest. The largest muscle in your body, and therefore the most effective at calorie burning, is your butt! So don’t be afraid to do squats, leg exercises, and any strengthening workouts. Not only are you toning your body, but you are speeding up your metabolism at the same time!
Eat
One way to increase your metabolism is to eat more! If you are already eating a substantial amount of food, it would be unnecessary to over eat, but if you’re eating less than 1000 calories a day be sure to add in more healthy foods, such as nuts, fruits and vegetables. The more your body is used to eating, the more it gets used to burning and the more food you can east without gaining weight!
Quick Tips:
– Drink ice cold water
– Eat spicy foods
– Get at least 8 hours of sleep every night
– Eat foods high in omega 3 fatty acids (salmon, tuna, walnuts)
– Drink green tea
– Eat lots of protein
Supplements: YAY or NAY ?
When it comes to supplements, I personally don’t recommend them. The ingredients that are “effective” tend to boost metabolism only slightly and they can become risky. High doses of stimulants can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. We also don’t know what the long term effects might be.
The safest and most effective way to boost your metabolism is to eat an appropriate amount of food every four to five hours and exercise regularly!
